Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, the Local Government chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was shot dead on Thursday along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway, near Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area, Kogi State. Yunusa was found dead in his vehicle, while another occupant was abducted by the assailants. Following the attack, the Kogi State Police Command intensified security operations in collaboration with other agencies, combing nearby forests to rescue the abducted victim and track down the attackers.
The police have evacuated Yunusa's remains to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for autopsy and are pursuing leads to identify the perpetrators. Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi has ordered sustained security operations along the affected corridor and urged motorists to remain vigilant.
