INEC Receives N500 Billion for 2027 Elections Preparation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has received over N500 billion, which constitutes 50% of the budget allocation for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Mohammed Haruna, during an interview, stated that the funds are crucial for the commission's preparations.

However, he expressed concerns about outstanding debts from previous elections, noting that the release of the remaining funds is necessary for full implementation of current plans. Haruna mentioned that INEC has already begun preparations for the elections, including plans to acquire additional Bimodal Voter Accreditation (BVA) devices and essential electoral materials.

He highlighted the importance of the timely release of funds, as delays could hinder the electoral process. The first tranche of N500 billion was released two weeks ago, and Haruna encouraged the release of the new half to ensure adequate preparations.
