ActionAid Nigeria Hosts Summit to Empower Youth for 2027 Elections

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) held a one-day youth democracy and accountability summit to empower Nigerian youths in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Dr Andrew Mamedu, Country Director of AAN, emphasized the importance of democracy and resource allocation.

The summit, themed "Empowering young people for Democratic participation and accountability ahead of the 2027 general election," aimed to help youths create a collective agenda to present to political parties and candidates. Blessing Ifemenam, Program Advisor at AAN, noted that this initiative extends beyond Abuja, allowing young Nigerians nationwide to articulate their priorities.

The emerging Youth Agenda will address issues such as unemployment, youth participation in democracy, climate and environmental justice, inclusion, and gender. Vivian Bassey, Governance Specialist at AAN, stated that the summit's objectives include strengthening youth participation, leadership, and accountability in governance, providing a platform for young people to share concerns and shape their democratic agenda.
