FG Urges Youth Participation in 2027 Electoral Process

The Federal Government of Nigeria has called on youths to engage actively in the electoral process to foster economic growth and development. This appeal was made during the Election Roundtable on the 2027 general election, organized by the Humanitarian Foundation for Social Justice and The Create Studio Nigeria in Abuja.

Dr Olukemi Afolayan, the Director of Civic, Values and Democracy Education at the National Orientation Agency (NOA), stated that young people are crucial stakeholders in today's democracy. She emphasized the need for civic education to empower citizens to understand the significance of their votes and to reject electoral malpractice.

Prof. Ajibade Abiodun Michael, the keynote speaker, urged government investment in combating voter apathy and enhancing voter enfranchisement. He highlighted that voter suppression remains a contemporary issue and called for technological advancements in the electoral process.

The discussions underscored the importance of creating an inclusive political environment for all eligible citizens, particularly young people, women, and persons with disabilities.
