Civil Society Urges NASS to Fast-Track Electoral Reforms for 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Nigerian Civil Situation Room has urged the National Assembly to expedite electoral reforms to ensure timely passage of laws. Celestine Odo of ActionAid Nigeria cautioned that Nigeria's democracy is at a crossroads and risks decline without strengthening electoral integrity.

The group called for the finalization of pending reforms to restore confidence in elections, particularly emphasizing the upcoming governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun states. Odo highlighted the threats of systemic corruption and governance failures to Nigeria's democratic consolidation.

The Situation Room also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver free, fair, and credible polls in 2027.
