Situation Room Urges NASS for Electoral Reforms, Criticizes Senator's Suspension

The Situation Room, represented by ActionAid Nigeria, urged the National Assembly to pass electoral reforms and criticized the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti. They called on INEC to ensure free and fair elections, especially in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun states by 2027.

The coalition highlighted governance deficits and corruption as threats to democracy. The Senate suspended Akpoti in March 2025 for alleged misconduct, leading to a legal battle.

The Situation Room criticized the Senate's refusal to allow Akpoti's resumption, stating it undermines democratic principles. They emphasized the importance of electoral integrity and democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
