Kano Officials Must Resign by March 31 for 2026 Elections

The Kano State Government, through a circular signed by Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has mandated that all public officials who plan to contest in the upcoming 2026 elections must resign from their positions by March 31, 2026. This decision was communicated to top government officials, including commissioners, directors, and senior appointees across the state.

The directive aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, which regulates the involvement of public servants in partisan political activities. The government emphasized that this move is intended to uphold the core values of the civil service, including neutrality, accountability, and integrity in public office.

The circular further urged relevant authorities to ensure that this directive is widely circulated and strictly adhered to, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining a non-partisan civil service during the electoral process.
