Taraba Government Urges Resignation for 2027 Elections

The Taraba State Government has issued a directive to all political appointees and public servants planning to contest in the upcoming 2027 general elections, urging them to resign from their positions. This instruction aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that public office holders must step down within a legally prescribed timeframe before participating in party primaries.

Josiah Sabo Kent, the Governor's Special Adviser on Political Matters, emphasized that this resignation requirement is a routine administrative step aimed at ensuring a fair, transparent, and equitable electoral system. The government warned that failure to comply with this directive could result in legal consequences, including potential disqualification from relevant electoral authorities.

Governor Agbu Kefa reiterated the administration's commitment to constitutional governance and democratic best practices, expressing appreciation for the public service commitment of officials across the state while wishing political aspirants success within the confines of the law.
