APC Screens 14 Governors for 2027 Elections, Fubara Absent

The All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted a screening exercise for 14 governors seeking re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections. Notably absent from the screening was Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The screening process commenced on May 8, 2023, and is anticipated to conclude by May 10, 2023. The APC began selling nomination forms on April 28, with the exercise closing at midnight on May 6.

The party adopted a consensus direct primary approach in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2025. The primary elections are scheduled to begin with the House of Representatives on May 15, followed by the Senate on May 18, State House Assembly on May 20, Governorship on May 21, and Presidential primaries on May 23.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the presidential and national assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and the governorship and state assembly elections for February 6, 2027. The APC screening committee, chaired by the party's national chairman Nentaw Yilwatda, included various governors such as Abba Yusuf of Kano State and Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.
