APC Screens 14 Governors for 2027 Elections; Fubara Absent

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently screening 14 governors who are seeking re-election for the 2027 general elections. Notably, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara was absent from the screening process.

The screening commenced on May 8, 2023, and is anticipated to conclude by May 10, 2023. The APC has adopted a consensus direct primary method in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2025, with the primaries scheduled to begin on May 15, 2023, for the House of Representatives, followed by the Senate on May 18, state House of Assembly on May 20, governorship on May 21, and presidential primaries on May 23.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the presidential and national assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and governorship and state assembly elections for February 6, 2027. The APC screening committee is chaired by the party's national chairman, Nentaw Yilwatda, with Surajudeen Basiru serving as secretary.

Other governors screened include Abba Yusuf (Kano), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), and Nasir Idris (Kebbi), among others.
