Makinde Proposes Fuel Subsidy Elimination Plan

Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, stated during the inauguration of his campaign office in Abuja on Monday that he would not reinstate fuel subsidies if elected. Instead, he proposed an alternative plan focused on transparency in providing benefits to Nigerians.

Makinde suggested that domestic refineries should receive crude oil at a preferential price, allowing local communities to benefit from their resources without facing high costs. He emphasized that the advantages should be integrated into the initial supply price rather than relying on non-transparent interventions at the petrol pump, which lead to cost inefficiencies and distortions.

Makinde clarified that his position is not to bring back the old fuel subsidy but to ensure that Nigeria's oil provides real and measurable benefits to its citizens from the outset.
