Gombe Governor Yahaya Warns Against Violence in Primaries

Gombe State Governor Yahaya issued a warning against violence in a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance towards lawlessness as the state prepares for the 2027 general elections. He highlighted the importance of conducting party primaries in accordance with the Electoral Act of 2026, specifically Section 84(2), which allows for direct primaries or consensus nominations.

Yahaya noted that the primaries are crucial for democracy and social cohesion, urging all political parties, including his own, the APC, to prioritize peace over political interests. He mentioned that while efforts were made to reach a consensus among aspirants, disagreements prevented complete agreement.

The governor warned that any individual or group attempting to incite violence or disrupt the electoral process would face severe legal consequences, regardless of their status. He reiterated the need for political leaders to ensure the safety and stability of Gombe State during this critical period.
