Opposition Parties Gear Up for 2027 Plateau Elections

As the 2027 gubernatorial elections approach, opposition parties in Plateau State are mobilizing grassroots support across the 17 local government areas. Governor Mutfwang is seeking re-election and will face significant challenges from four major contenders, including Kefa Wungak and Sundai Garba, who lead different factions of the PDP.

The PDP remains the largest opposition party in Plateau, but internal factional splits have weakened its position. Analysts, including Shabul Mazadu, note that the ADC and NDC lack robust statewide structures and face challenges in voter mobilization.

Despite these hurdles, ADC spokesperson Sila Audu Wattok expressed confidence in the party's ability to emerge victorious, emphasizing extensive consultations and grassroots engagement. PDP's zonal chairman Simon Doml asserted that the party is capable of defeating the APC, reminding voters of their previous gubernatorial success in 2023.

The political landscape is marked by a divided voter base and the need for unified opposition to challenge the incumbent governor effectively.
