Makinde Rejects Claims of Using French Loan for Campaign

Oyo Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde addressed allegations regarding a €55 million French concessional loan, stating it was secured solely for the development of Oyo State and not for his presidential campaign. He made these remarks on Friday while returning to work after his annual leave, emphasizing that he has no intention of diverting the funds for political purposes.

The controversy arose from claims by the campaign organization of APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli, which called for transparency in the loan's utilization. Earlier, Makinde indicated that the loan would enhance secondary healthcare facilities across the state.

Additionally, he announced a three-month extension of the wage award for state workers to alleviate economic pressures, alongside the continuation of a transportation subsidy. Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, along with other officials, praised Makinde's governance during his absence, highlighting the administration's commitment to continuity and worker welfare.
