Adebayo Promises Solar Panels for Every Nigerian Roof

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), announced his plan to install solar panels on every Nigerian's roof within 11 months of assuming office if elected in the upcoming 2027 elections. He made this commitment during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Tuesday.

Adebayo criticized previous rural electrification efforts that relied on costly 33 kVA lines, arguing for a shift towards decentralized solar solutions. He emphasized the importance of local manufacturing of rooftop solar panels and community training, rather than depending on expensive grid electrification.

Adebayo stated that between 11 and 15 kW of solar power would be installed on each roof within the specified timeframe. He referenced his past advisory role to the Obasanjo administration in 2001, where he suggested forming agreements with China or India to establish a solar panel manufacturing factory and train local installers.

He also mentioned that local government areas possess funds that are misappropriated monthly.
