INEC Launches Readiness Checks for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun nationwide readiness assessments and staff engagements as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections. This initiative, announced by INEC chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan in Abuja, aims to identify operational gaps and assess emerging risks across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

The Commission is also working on the procurement of non-sensitive electoral materials and voter registration processes. The election timetable has been translated into a coordinated program involving 23 departments, 36 state offices, the Federal Capital Territory, and 774 local government areas.

Completed activities include the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and the display of the Preliminary Register of Voters. Ongoing efforts include generating the PDF Register of Voters and synchronizing CVR data.

INEC has commenced training for election personnel and plans to enhance voter education targeting various groups, including women and young people, while improving election technology and processes.
