INEC to Release Candidate Nomination Codes on June 26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will release access codes for its candidate nomination portal on June 26, 2026. This will enable political parties to begin uploading candidate details for the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made by INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan during a quarterly meeting with political party leaders. He stated that the access codes will be issued to authorized national offices of political parties, which will be responsible for uploading nominee biodata and required information into the system.

Amupitan urged political parties to ensure their ICT personnel are fully prepared ahead of the exercise, as the portal will automatically close after the prescribed period. He also expressed concern over unresolved court cases related to internal party leadership, describing them as unnecessary distractions that could affect electoral preparations.

Amupitan reiterated INEC's commitment to conducting transparent primaries and upholding democratic principles.
