INEC Explains Delay in Political Parties' Candidate Submissions

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Mohammed Kudu Haruna, has stated that political parties have not uploaded candidates' credentials to the official portal because they have not yet been issued the required access codes. The timeline for submitting candidates' names is set from June 27 to July 11, 2026, with no nominations received as of the latest update.

The deadline for presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives candidates is July 11, while state assembly candidates are expected to be submitted in August. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Public Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), addressed concerns regarding the withholding of candidates' names, emphasizing that parties must publicly release their nominations at the appropriate time.

INEC has confirmed that it will make the necessary information available once the parties are ready to submit.
