PDP Loses 107 NASS Members to Defections Amid Crisis

On Wednesday, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) experienced a major setback as 107 members of the National Assembly defected to other parties, primarily the All Progressives Congress (APC). This includes three senators and five members of the House of Representatives, reducing PDP's representation in the Senate to 14, far below the 36 required to maintain a significant presence.

The defections were attributed to ongoing leadership crises within the PDP. Notable defectors include Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo from Rivers West, who cited the need for a stable political platform, and several House members such as Inuwa Garba from Gombe State and Abdullahi Bashir from Taraba State.

The APC's strength in the Senate has now expanded to 84 seats, while the PDP's representation has dropped to 102 members in total. The defections have raised concerns about the party's cohesion and ability to serve the public effectively.
