Six Lawmakers Defect to APC and ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, a significant political shift occurred as six lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC). This wave of defections underscores the growing political uncertainty as the 2027 general elections approach.

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abba, received formal notifications of the defections, including a letter from Adamu Wakili, a representative from the Minjibir Ungogo Federal Constituency in Kano State. Wakili cited persistent leadership crises within the NNPP as a primary reason for the defection, stating that the internal divisions made it untenable to remain.

Alongside Wakili, Umar Zakari and Datti Abdulhakeem from Kano State also announced their decision to join the ADC, attributing their move to the protracted leadership crisis affecting the party at both state and national levels.
