Jonathan Secures PDP Forms for 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has secretly acquired nomination forms from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as he considers a bid for the 2027 presidential election. This move comes despite earlier indications that he would step back from active politics.

Jonathan's loyalists have expressed interest in his candidacy, particularly from a faction led by Kabiru Turaki, which seeks to regain recognition within the PDP amid ongoing legal disputes affecting the party's structure. Jonathan is awaiting a court ruling regarding his eligibility to run, which hinges on whether he has completed two constitutional terms, following his election victory in 2011.

Should the court rule in his favor, he is expected to publicly announce his candidacy. This development occurs as opposition parties, including the PDP, face internal conflicts over leadership and strategy ahead of the elections.

Notably, discussions among opposition figures, including Peter Obi, have intensified, although some believe Jonathan's potential candidacy could complicate efforts to unify against the current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
