Kano Police Chief Ibrahim Bakori Calls for Election Neutrality

On September 28, 2026, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, instructed operational commanders to uphold neutrality, professionalism, and apolitical conduct as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify. This directive was issued during a strategic lecture on election security management held for Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Tactical and Operational Units at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai, Kano.

Bakori emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has a constitutional duty to ensure a fair electoral process and warned that any officer engaging in partisan politics would face strict disciplinary action. He also urged commanders to respect human rights and the rule of law, reinforcing the need for community partnerships and intelligence-led policing to build public trust.

The police will provide security before, during, and after the elections, in line with the directives from Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu. Political parties and candidates were urged to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act.
