Sokoto CP Urges Peaceful Conduct Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Wednesday, Hayatu Shafa, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, issued a warning to political parties and their supporters regarding violence, hate speech, and fake news that could jeopardize the integrity of the 2027 elections. During a meeting with political party chairmen and representatives, Shafa emphasized the need for peaceful campaigning and cooperation with security agencies to ensure a violence-free election process.

He stated that the upcoming elections should be viewed as a contest of ideas rather than a battle, urging politicians to allow voters to make their choices freely. Shafa also stressed that political leaders would be held accountable for the actions of their supporters, including youth groups and social media influencers, warning that any disturbances would result in personal accountability.

He affirmed that the police would enforce the Electoral Act 2022 against violators and called on political parties to inform security agencies about potential threats and flashpoints, particularly in areas affected by banditry such as Sabon Birni, Rabah, Kebbe, Tureta, and Isa.
