Labour Party Petitions Against Presidential Aspirant Nwigw

Comrade Igiri Innoc, the Labour Party Secretary in Ebonyi State, has submitted a petition to the Labour Party Presidential Screening Committee in Abuja, requesting the disqualification of Samuel Chibuzor Nwigw from participating in the party's presidential primaries scheduled for May 20, 2026. The petition alleges that Nwigw does not meet critical constitutional requirements to contest for the presidency, specifically citing dual citizenship as a barrier.

Igiri claims that Nwigw holds British citizenship, which contravenes Section 131 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, stating that a presidential aspirant must be a Nigerian citizen by birth. Additionally, Igiri argues that Nwigw, born in October 1991 and currently 34 years old, does not meet the age requirement of 35 years to contest for the presidency.

The petition also raises concerns about Nwigw's active participation within the Labour Party structure in Ebonyi State, questioning his membership status and involvement in party activities.
