Nigeria to Launch 90,000km Fibre Optic Network Soon

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced plans to commence the rollout of a 90,000-kilometre fibre optic network across the country within weeks. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, disclosed this after a briefing with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

The project aims to significantly improve broadband connectivity by extending fibre optic infrastructure to every state, geopolitical zone, local government area, and ward in Nigeria. Dr Tijani stated that the government has completed the necessary resource mobilization and contractual processes for the project.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for policy reforms that have bolstered the communications sector, including the designation of digital infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure. Additionally, the government plans to deploy approximately 3,700 telecommunications towers starting in October to enhance network coverage for over 20 million Nigerians currently lacking access to telecommunications services.
