APC Backs Kadri Hamzat for Lagos Governorship in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos is advocating for the candidacy of Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 governorship election. Lagos APC spokesman Mogaji Seye Oladejo emphasized Hamzat's government and private sector experience, arguing that voters should consider institutional memory and executive experience.

Hamzat was endorsed as the consensus governorship candidate by the Lagos APC’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in April 2026, a decision announced by GAC chairman Tajudeen Olusi. Oladejo noted Hamzat's long history in Lagos governance, which began in 2005 when he served as Commissioner for Science and Technology under Governor Bola Tinubu.

He later became Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under Governor Babatunde Fashola and was elected Deputy Governor in 2019, retaining the position in 2023 alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Oladejo argued for continuity in governance, stating that it should involve retaining effective policies while improving others, and acknowledged that voters would ultimately decide based on candidates' records and programs.
