Key Issues Shaping Nigeria's 2027 Presidential Campaign

Nigeria is approaching a pivotal presidential election in 2027, marking one of the most significant contests since the return to democratic governance in 1999. Key campaign issues are expected to include the economy, security, corruption, job creation, food prices, energy, and institutional reform.

Incumbent President Bola Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), will present a scorecard of his administration's three years in office, emphasizing reforms such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and increased security investments. Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the administration has implemented necessary reforms to stabilize the economy, which now shows trade surpluses and improved foreign reserves.

The APC faces the challenge of convincing voters that the benefits of these reforms outweigh their immediate costs, especially as opposition candidates will question whether Nigerians are better off than in 2022.
