Makinde and Obi Launch "Reset Nigeria" Agenda Ahead of 2027

On Monday, during the inauguration of the APM presidential campaign office in Abuja, Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, and Peter Obi, the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, unveiled the "Reset Nigeria" agenda. They expressed confidence that Nigerians' votes will count in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Makinde rejected the idea of reinstating fuel subsidies, advocating instead for domestic crude pricing for Nigerian refineries to make petrol more affordable. He criticized the management of the post-subsidy era by President Bola Tinubu, who announced the removal of petrol subsidies on May 29, 2023.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now a candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has promised to restore the subsidy if elected, which has received mixed reactions. Makinde emphasized the need for transparency in the petroleum value chain, stating that Nigerians should benefit directly from their crude resources and understand the pricing mechanisms involved.
