Makinde Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Monday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde addressed PDP stakeholders from 33 local government areas at the party's secretariat in Ibadan. He dismissed speculation about his potential defection from the PDP, assuring party members of his continued loyalty.

The meeting coincided with a gathering of national leaders from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in Kano, including former governors Peter Obi and Seriake Dickson. Makinde emphasized the need for party unity and collaboration to resolve internal differences ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He directed party leaders across various zones to convene meetings aimed at fostering unity and building consensus. Additionally, he announced that first-term members of the Oyo State House of Assembly would receive automatic tickets for re-election, in line with existing agreements, including a rotational arrangement.

Makinde described the upcoming elections as crucial for the future of democracy and reaffirmed his aspiration to seek electoral positions in the 2027 contest.
