NDC Endorses Peter Obi for 2027 Presidential Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared the path for Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, to run for a single-term presidential ticket in the 2027 elections. This decision was made during the party's national convention held in Abuja, where delegates adopted a motion proposed by Afam Ogen, a lawmaker representing the Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State.

NDC National Chairman Mose Cleopa announced that this move is part of the party's broader power-sharing formula aimed at balancing regional interests within the opposition coalition. The proposal for a single four-year term for the southern presidential ticket is designed to ensure that the presidency automatically returns to the north in 2031.

The convention also saw the formal joining of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso into the NDC, who urged party members to avoid internal crises and focus on rebuilding Nigeria. Obi expressed optimism for free and credible elections in 2027, emphasizing the need for a strong opposition platform to challenge the ruling party.
