North May Not Support Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket for 2027

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party's 2023 vice presidential candidate, conveyed doubts regarding the likelihood of northern political forces rallying behind a joint ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that the northern region remains crucial in determining electoral outcomes and noted that maintaining cordial relationships with major political stakeholders is essential.

Baba-Ahmed refrained from naming specific individuals in recent political discussions but stressed the importance of engaging in long-term political strategies that extend beyond the immediate electoral cycle of 2024. He pointed out that the current opposition alignment may not sustain itself and raised concerns about the shifting political alliances that have historically affected candidate support.

Baba-Ahmed highlighted the changing demographics in Nigeria and the increasing demand for new generational leadership, warning that internal contradictions within political tickets could undermine their goals. He cited Kwankwaso as an example of a politician with significant grassroots support across various states.
