Northern Nigeria Unlikely to Support Obi, Kwankwaso in 2027

Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential running mate of Peter Obi in the 2023 elections, expressed skepticism regarding the support for Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso in the upcoming 2027 presidential elections from Northern Nigeria. He noted that there are no signs indicating that the North will rally behind their presidential tickets.

Baba-Ahmed criticized Obi's departure from the Labour Party amid internal challenges, suggesting that Obi's frequent political party changes reflect poorly on his leadership. He also questioned why Kwankwaso did not support Obi during the 2023 elections, indicating a potential leadership conflict.

Baba-Ahmed mentioned that despite attempts to engage with Kwankwaso, he does not foresee a productive political relationship developing. He emphasized that Obi's departure from the Labour Party does not resolve the party's internal crises and highlighted the challenges of reconciling differing factions within the party.
