Oba of Benin Endorses Continuity for Tinubu's 2027 Bid

On September 16, 2026, the Oba of Benin received Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), who led a delegation to seek royal blessings, prayers, and support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The Oba clarified that the Benin throne is non-partisan and his support should not be interpreted as favoring any political party.

He urged political leaders, including former governors and senators, to collaborate for the nation's interest and advocated for a constructive relationship between the ruling party and the opposition. Yari highlighted the Tinubu administration's economic progress, citing improvements in GDP growth, inflation, and foreign exchange stability, asserting that Tinubu is the right leader for Nigeria.

Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa supported the call for a second term for Tinubu, emphasizing the achievements of Governor Monday Okpebholo in Edo State and the expectation of strong support for Tinubu in the upcoming election.
