Peter Obi Calls for Transparency in Academic Records

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has challenged his competitors in the 2027 presidential race to make their academic qualifications and relevant records available for public scrutiny. He made this declaration on 16 September 2026, emphasizing that those aspiring for Nigeria's highest office must demonstrate transparency.

Obi authorized the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and other institutions he attended to release his academic records upon legitimate requests, in accordance with applicable laws. This move comes as former Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has initiated legal action in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking the release of records related to Obi’s educational qualifications.

Obi expressed his readiness to undergo scrutiny, stating that public interest in his background should not be seen as an attack but as a means to enhance public confidence in candidates. He urged all presidential candidates to embrace similar transparency to foster accountability and trust among the electorate.
