Aisha Yesufu Urges Opposition Unity for 2027 Elections

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist, called for the unification of opposition parties in Nigeria under the presidential candidacy of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections. Yesufu made this statement in a post on Wednesday, asserting that the move does not imply surrendering the various political parties.

She highlighted that the opposition, which collectively received 64 percent of the votes in the 2023 general elections, needs to form a strong coalition to challenge the ruling party led by Bola Tinubu, who was declared the winner with 36 percent of the votes. Yesufu stressed that the opposition must work together to create a formidable force and lamented the existing splits among them.

She clarified that unifying does not mean dissolving individual party platforms or principles but rather coordinating efforts to connect and strengthen their collective impact.
