Northern Academics Endorse Tinubu for 2027 Election

More than 600 senior academics from public universities across Northern Nigeria have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. This endorsement followed an assessment of the Tinubu administration's performance in key sectors of the economy and governance.

The academics convened an interactive session led by Ibrahim Masari, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, under the theme: “Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda: Three Years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Achievements and the Road to 2027.” While they expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid based on perceived achievements, they emphasized that this should not be seen as unconditional support, urging the Federal Government to intensify efforts to tackle food prices, unemployment, and insecurity. The endorsement has faced criticism from the Academic Staff Union of Universities, which distanced itself from the academics' decision.

The political landscape is heating up as various groups declare their preferred candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
