PDP and APC Aspirants Negotiate Power-Sharing for 2027

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and 15 aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have initiated negotiations regarding the sharing of elective positions in preparation for the 2027 elections. The PDP has tasked former Senate President Bukola Saraki with leading discussions with the discontented APC members.

This move follows a report submitted by the Kwara State APC Reconciliation Committee to the party's State Working Committee, addressing internal conflicts that arose after the party primaries. During a meeting in Ilorin, the aggrieved aspirants expressed their commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's electoral success in 2027 but declared they would not support the APC in Kwara State.

The PDP has proposed six state House of Assembly seats, two senatorial tickets, and two House of Representatives slots to the aspirants, who are demanding ten state assembly slots, two senatorial tickets, and two House of Representatives tickets. Yahaya Oloriegbe, spokesperson for the coalition, criticized the APC leadership for excluding stakeholders and warned of potential electoral repercussions if the national leadership does not intervene.
