Tinubu Urges Peace and Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Tuesday in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu cautioned political parties and candidates against using ethnic, religious, and other divisions for political gain during the signing of the Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 general elections. Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu emphasized that while political disagreements are normal, they should not undermine national unity or social stability.

He called for campaigns focused on constructive debate and policies that promote national development. Tinubu reaffirmed the All Progressives Congress's commitment to the accord, rejecting electoral violence, hate speech, misinformation, and incitement, particularly through social media and artificial intelligence.

He stressed that political contests should not be viewed as "do-or-die" affairs and praised the National Peace Committee, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar, for its ongoing efforts to foster peace since 2014.
