Wike Claims G-5 Governors Undermined Obi in Rivers State

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, revealed that members of the defunct G-5 Governors’ Group actively worked against Peter Obi's presidential campaign in Rivers State during the 2023 election. In an interview with TVC News, Wike explained that this strategy aimed to hinder Atiku Abubakar, the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, from dominating the South-South region.

Although Obi, representing the Labour Party, claimed victory in Rivers State, allegations of election result manipulation surfaced. Wike indicated that the G-5 governors perceived the PDP as strong in the South-South and sought to prevent Atiku from benefiting from the region's votes.

Consequently, they allowed Obi to gain traction in parts of the South-South but firmly opposed his success in Rivers State, stating, “Obi will not win here.” Wike asserted that the political landscape has shifted since 2023, declaring that Obi cannot win the South-South in the upcoming 2027 elections.
