Wike Details Strategy to Defeat Atiku in 2023 Election

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, disclosed on Wednesday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, how he and his political allies worked against Atiku Abubakar's presidential ambition in the 2023 election. Wike stated that their strategy was deliberate, aimed at preventing Atiku from dominating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and winning the presidency.

He explained that they encouraged support for Peter Obi's Labour Party in the South-East, where the PDP had historically received substantial backing. Wike identified Atiku as the primary political force to be countered, revealing that their support for Obi was a calculated decision to weaken Atiku's electoral strength.

He mentioned former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom as a key figure in this strategy, particularly in light of the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the All Progressives Congress. Wike's group, known as the G5 governors, had previously demanded the resignation of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu, arguing against having both the presidential candidate and national chairman from the North.
