Omokri Warns Atiku Against Choosing Obi for 2027

Reno Omokri, a former aide to a past president, cautioned Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, against selecting Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. Omokri argues that such a choice could lead to a loss of political support in Abubakar's home state of Adamawa.

He emphasizes that northern voters are often influenced by religious sentiments and historical experiences, which could alienate them from an Atiku-Obi ticket. Omokri references the 2021 murder of Ahmadu Gulak in Owerri and the subsequent lack of condemnation from Obi regarding violence in Anambra State, suggesting that these incidents have left a lasting negative impression among voters in Adamawa.

He also highlights that political leaders must be sensitive to the diverse and complex realities of Nigeria's multi-religious and multi-ethnic society, warning that past grievances cannot be easily overlooked.
