Politicians Urged to Focus on Nigeria's Future Issues

Prof. Anthony Kila, Director of the Commonwealth Institute and a renowned political economist, warned Nigerian politicians against prioritizing mundane issues over critical concerns affecting the nation's future.

Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, Kila emphasized that with less than seven months until the general elections, the focus should be on strategic questions regarding job creation, economic stability, and institutional strengthening. He lamented that discussions often revolve around trivial matters, such as the selection of running mates, rather than addressing core issues like education, healthcare, and governance efficiency.

Kila criticized the political landscape for becoming an endless conversation among elites rather than a genuine engagement with citizens. He urged that until politicians prioritize substantial issues over tactical conversations, the electoral process would remain superficial.

Kila's remarks reflect a broader concern that Nigerian democracy needs to evolve beyond mere electoral competition to meaningful policy discussions that address the nation's pressing challenges.
