Atiku Abubakar Challenges Presidency on Power Rotation

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, has responded to the presidency's comments regarding power rotation, asserting that it is not a constitutional decree. His spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, issued a statement on Thursday following remarks from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga had claimed that President Bola Tinubu would complete an eight-year term in office, aligning with a power rotation arrangement between the North and South, which he argued is necessary since a northern president has already served two terms. Shaibu criticized this position as unconstitutional and undemocratic, stating that no presidential aide has the authority to rewrite Nigeria's constitution.

He emphasized that power rotation is a political convention, not a constitutional mandate, and condemned attempts to silence credible opposition, asserting that such actions reflect fear rather than principle.
