Atiku's Aide Critiques Tinubu's Spokesman on Power Rotation

On Thursday, Phrank Shaibu, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, criticized Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesman for Bola Tinubu, regarding comments on power rotation in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections. Onanuga argued that Tinubu should complete two terms in office, suggesting that the South should retain power until 2031.

Shaibu described this stance as unconstitutional and anti-democratic, asserting that no presidential aide has the authority to rewrite Nigeria's constitution or silence opposition voices. He emphasized that Nigeria belongs to its citizens, not to specific regions or political blocs.

Shaibu also condemned the administration's performance and its reliance on regional arguments, stating that the upcoming elections should focus on the people's choices rather than political propaganda. He criticized the notion that Tinubu's presidency should be viewed as a crown and called for a dismantling of what he termed a lazy narrative surrounding power rotation.
