Jonathan Addresses Youth Calls for 2027 Presidential Run

Former President Goodluck Jonathan responded to calls from various youth groups urging him to contest in the 2027 presidential election. During a meeting in Abuja, he remarked that the presidential race is not a "computer game," highlighting the importance of thoughtful leadership decisions that require broad consultation.

Jonathan expressed his appreciation for the youth's interest in Nigeria's future and stressed the necessity of civic engagement for nation-building. He warned that the absence of transparency in the electoral process could discourage citizen participation in politics.

Jonathan also noted the concerning low voter turnout in Nigeria, which he described as one of the poorest across 14 African countries and Southeast Asia, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He called for young Nigerians to become actively involved in the democratic process by obtaining voter cards and participating in elections.

Jonathan reiterated his commitment to consult widely before making any decisions regarding the 2027 presidential election.
