Yomi Edu Advocates for Political Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Yomi Edu, who identifies as an Elder at 80 years old, reflects on Nigeria's political landscape, emphasizing the need for national unity and stability ahead of the 2027 Presidential Elections. He notes that a candidate cannot win the presidency without securing both the popular vote and at least 25% of votes in two-thirds of the states, highlighting the necessity of support from both Southern and Northern regions.

Edu recalls how former President Gen. Buhari, despite strong Northern support, required Southern votes, particularly from current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to secure a second term.

He argues that while zoning is not constitutionally mandated, it has become an accepted norm in Nigeria. Edu warns that electing a Northern president after a Southern presidency could destabilize the country.

He also acknowledges the economic reforms under the Tinubu administration, which, while necessary, have caused hardship across all regions, affecting poorer citizens more severely.
