Okechukwu Urges Atiku to Honor Southern Zoning in 2027

Osita Okechukwu, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director General of Voice of Nigeria, called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to permit the southern region of Nigeria to complete its presidential tenure. In a statement made in Enugu, Okechukwu responded to the Southern Political Progress Amalgam Forum's call for Abubakar to abandon the zoning rotation principle.

He urged Abubakar to carefully consider his choice of vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections to bolster support from the south. Okechukwu dismissed the pressure from the Southern Political Progress Amalgam Forum, labeling it as self-serving.

He reminded Abubakar of his previous defense of zoning during Goodluck Jonathan's administration and stressed the need for adherence to these principles to promote national cohesion and political stability. Okechukwu warned that it is not too late for Abubakar to withdraw from the presidential race and emphasized the importance of maintaining the zoning convention for Nigeria's democracy.
