Stakeholders Advocate for Issue-Based Politics in Nigeria

During a high-level expert dialogue held in Abuja, stakeholders, including Hon. Sadiq Tafida, underscored the necessity of issue-based politics and the implementation of the National Peace Policy (NPP) to foster social cohesion in Nigeria.

Tafida highlighted the importance of the NPP, which was first presented to the Federal Executive Council in 2012, and noted that the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has an opportunity to revive this process. Dr.

Joseph Ochogwu, Director General of IPCR, explained that the NPP aims to promote collaboration among state frameworks to design co-creation processes. Chri Ngwodo, Director General of OSPR, emphasized the need to move away from fragmented approaches towards unified national efforts.

Dr. Paul Nyulaku Bemshima from Triple Peace Africa pointed out the escalating conflicts across Nigeria, indicating a need to update the peace policy to address the changing nature of conflicts in the country.
