Makinde and Kwankwaso Discuss PDP Reconciliation for 2027

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State met with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former Governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as part of reconciliation efforts within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting, which took place during the 10th annual Dandalin Kwankwasiyya event, follows ongoing tensions within the PDP, particularly between factions led by Nyesom Wike and Tanimu Turaki.

Despite indications of a willingness to reconcile, recent statements from Makinde suggest that peace talks may have stalled. The PDP has faced internal turmoil, leading to a split into rival factions.

The party's upcoming national convention is scheduled for March 29-30, and a court ruling on March 9 upheld a previous decision that nullified the outcomes of an earlier convention due to violations of electoral laws. The need for reconciliation within the party remains critical as they prepare for the next electoral cycle.
