Tertiary Institutions Endorse Tinubu for Second Term

The Forum of Governing Councils of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (FOGOCOM) endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term during a press conference in Abuja on Saturday. The forum's chairman, Dr. Akin Thomas Babajid, stated that the endorsement was based on the federal government's reform interventions in higher education, which have significantly improved institutional governance, infrastructure, and student welfare.

Key achievements highlighted include the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has provided interest-free loans to 1.38 million students, disbursing N242 billion for tuition and upkeep. The forum also noted a N110 billion allocation to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for high-impact projects, including the rehabilitation of medical schools across 18 states.

FOGOCOM praised the administration's commitment to strengthening educational governance and called for an extension of the tenure for governing councils from three to four years to ensure stability and effective policy implementation.
